Additional Concerns
IntroductionBelow are some of the most commonly treated conditions in my practice. I encourage you to come in for an initial consultation to find the best treatment option for you.
Depression
It is estimated that over 30 million Americans will experience depression at some point in their lives. There are countless factors that can contribute to depression including physiology, nutrition, exercise, lifestyle, and relationships. It can feel like the loneliest place in the world with no way out, but there is always hope.
Stress and anxiety
New York City can be fun and exciting, but it is often quite stressful. The cost of living is high and with the economy the way it is today, many New Yorkers are living with an enormous amount of stress and anxiety. Stress weakens the immune system, strains relationships, may lead to depression and inevitably adversely impacts one's quality of life. Anxiety affects millions of people to different degrees and in different stages of life. Anxiety can be paralyzing, self-defeating and totally overwhelming. Therapy is an ideal place for people to explore and learn ways to better manage stress and anxiety.
Shyness
For many people, it is difficult to open up and to feel that it is safe to be oneself in the presence of others. Like with most things, there is a broad spectrum of shyness. Some people have difficulty speaking in public, others have trouble relating and/or confronting their bosses at work, and many people have trouble establishing romantic relationships as much as they long for them. Therapy is an ideal place to safely work though and overcome the many aspects of shyness.
Shame
We come in all shapes and sizes, but we are used to judging and criticizing differences in ourselves and in others. Human beings expend an enormous amount of energy to try to fit into the roles and identities that are valued in society. Shame runs very deep and often contradicts rational thought. Therapy provides the opportunity to explore shame and to work on feeling comfortable in one's own skin.
