Why choose group therapy?
Group therapy is so effective because it is not only the therapist that assists in the change process, rather, every member of the group. Group affords the unique opportunity to explore and understand who we are in the context of others. It is natural and inevitable that one person’s struggle will serve as another person’s valuable lesson. In group, we learn to see, experience and work through love, pain, grief and shame alongside others and even through the eyes of others. If you are shy or it is hard for you to open up to others, as long as you are willing to engage, group is the ideal place to work on these and other issues because it is a safe and contained environment designed to promote exploration and growth. Respect for other members is of utmost importance. Everyone has their own needs and pace.
Groups can be short-term and goal-oriented or they can be ongoing and open. Everyone who is interested first comes in for an initial consultation, the purpose of which is to get to know you and what your needs are, and for you to get to know me and how I work.
I am currently running a mixed gender therapy group on Thursdays from 6:00-7:15pm with a focus on relationships.
